Both Andy and i worked during the day on the 31st of December but as soon as we could we dashed home, donned our glad rags and headed for the city to meet Kev, Vicky and some others who we were going to the Botanical gardens with to celebrate NYE and watch the fire works in style, Oh Yeah!. Let me set the scene a little.... it's 6pm, the sun is still high in the sky, our sunglasses are on, the temperature is some where in the high 20Cs and everyone is in high spirits. We stroll down the red carpet lined entrance to the botanical gardens to show our tickets and collect a small bottle of bubbly each, some chocolates and vouchers for each of our meal courses. We find our designated open air plastic patio table complete with table cloth and chairs and sit down to admire our surroundings. We have a brilliant view of the opera house and the rusty hanger (Sydney harbour bridge) over the bay with a few boats inbetween. We watch a plane write words in the sky and tuck into our meal. The starter is shrimps and dips and mains of pork belly or chicken coq au van. By 9.30pm the 1st set of fireworks start, for kiddies. The fireworks come from 4 main places - the harbour bridge, the top of some of the cities highrise buildings to our left, darling harbour in the back ground and finally some where far right. You dont know which bit to watch for fear of missing something elsewhere. After this we drink bubbly, spot and "out" celebs (sorry Andy Parsons), dance and chat until it's nearly midnight. The midnight fireworks are immense and we are all in awe of such an amazing sight. Like the earlier fireworks they came from all over to fill most of the sky but are a little bigger and brighter this time. Andy fuelled by lots of bubbly is having a great time trying to get everyone up dancing (i dont mean just our group i mean the whole place!! - odd!) and fist punching all who he comes across - that boy has been watching too much of the wire! Word! After a few more hours we are being asked to leave so we stumble through town with Andy and Kev chanting and singing as we go. What a fantastic night!! The hangover the next day at 36C was not pretty.
