We arrived in Copacabana on Sunday, with Ben and Pinks a couple from Swindon that we met in our hostel in La Paz. It was quite an eventful journey from La Paz, as at one point it involved us all getting off the bus to cross a section of Lake Titicaca in a small motor boat whilst the bus also floated across on another boat, it was quite an amusing sight!
Copacabana is so beautiful, it is quite a small town set right on Lake Titicaca where the water is so clear but bloody freezing! We found a hostel right on the Lake front for the bargain price of 30 Bolivianos, which is a very expensive 2 pounds per night!! As soon as we arrived we headed to the Lake, brought a couple of beers and headed out on a pedalo to watch the sunset - bliss!
The other great thing about Copacabana was the Lake Titicaca trout, it was delicious. Caught fresh and best eaten from a little stand on the Lake front served with rice, chips and salad for about 1 pound! We stocked up on our Omega 3 whilst we were here!
We also went on a day trip to the Isla del Sol, which was about a two hour boat ride away from Copacabana. This is where the Incas believed that the sun was born. It was really beautiful there and reminded us of a Greek Island. We walked about six miles from the north of the island to the south where we were picked up by the boat, it was quite hard going up pretty steep hills at high altitude, but good training for the Inca Trail next week! There were many Inca ruins on the island and a few small communities that live there, however it is starting to be affected by tourism, with little restaurants, shops and hostels popping up along the trail! We finished the walk by descending down the Inca steps to the harbour, very knackered and sunburnt!
This is our last stop in Bolivia, which we are very sad about, as tomorrow we enter our fifth country Peru. We have really loved Bolivia and have used up our visa to the very last 30th day! It has so many beautiful sights, delicious food, friendly people and it is so cheap! We would definitely recommend Bolivia to anyone as an amazing place to visit!
Lots of Love,
Sarah and Andrew xxx
