HELLO!
Sorry this is a much overdue blog update and quite a lot has happened in two weeks. The computer I am currenlty sat at is pretty crud, so apologies for any sloppy mistakes.
Soooo....when I left Vang Vieng things is Laos became a lot more chilled out, there were a lot less people down South but I still did some really cool things. When I arrived back in Vientiane I got a quick bus to Xang Xieng (The Buddha Park) this was really pretty cool. It was just loads of statues of Buddha's in this massive park, massively tall and really well built.
When I got back from the park I only had to wait an hour before I got on the overnight bus to Paske. Now, I can't lie...Paske was appallingly dull and the first day may be the most bored I have ever been...but AHH WELL, at least I got to read my book. The second day was much better, I took a tour from the hotel which tooks us to a tea plantation, a coffee plantation, 3 waterfalls, a school, a market (where they sold barbequed rat!) and a village (which I loved as we got to meet all the local children).
After Paske we moved on to a place called Champasak which was really nice! I met some really nice Australian honey-mooners who I hung around with. We stayed in a 70p per night room which wasn't grand but had all the necessities and the happiest man in the world! Literally never met anyone who has smiled or laughed more. We chilled out on the first day and on the second day went to Wat Phu Champasak which wasSTUNNING! It was an abandoned temple next to some massive hill which youcan climb and check it allll out.
The next day we took the bus from Champasak to Si Phan DON (4,000 Islands) and hen a boat to Don Khon Island. On the bus I met a lady who I'd previously met in Vang Vieng (although she didn't recognise me) named Lauren. After 3 hours o the bus Lauren was persuaded to come to Don Khnong with us and it was really nice having her there as she was ABSOLUTELY HILLARIOUS. On the first night we went for a walk and then had dinner at a bar which had brilliant views of the sunset. The next day me and one of the honey-mooners went on a kayak ride. This was BRILLIANT fun, we kayaked over to Cambodia for some lunch and watched dolphins bob up and down as we ate our rice!
The next day I left for the loooooooooooong journey to Phnom Penh, which is where I am now. It was really nice to meet up with the other 4 volunteers in the capital who already had lots of amusing storied to tell. We then went out to dinner...which was DODGY...I ordered duck curry and got the ducks feet and beak within my meal...NOT the best of places.
We moved on the next day to Mad Monkey Hostel and after unpacking checked out S-21 prison, which was SO interesting. S-21 prison is a school which was converted into a prison/ place of torture during the Khmer Rouge reign in the 1970's. We were even privileged enough to meet one of the fourteen people who survived S-21 (out of 20,000 killed there) and listen to his story, Next, we went to the Killing Fields, which was simlalrly pretty sad hearing about all the stories that went on there.
The next day we went to the market, where everyone stocked up on useless items they don't rewally need.
We've now started teaching, which is very fun. The kids are all lovlely and very keen to learn.l We've also been given D.I.Y. jobs to do...and as of this time tommorrow I will have bought and done the plumming for a brand new sink! Pretty crazy! I've also been doing the garden with my friend Sophie.
This weekwnd we have just been to Sihanookville beach which was very nice. It rained which was a shame but to be in the sea was fun regardless! On the Sunday mw and Sophie took a bopat trip to Bamboo islands, while the other three chilled out at home. It was stunning, turquoise seas and yellow sands...iiiiice.
Next weekend we are going to the iconinc Ankor Wat. I will kwwp yopu updated on it but I've heard NOTHING but BRILLIANT things so should be fantastic.
Hope everyone is enjoying the summer :)
