Following Dad's successful scouting mission Dad, Mum, Harry, Charlie and I walked [well OK drove] up to the top of North Head to investigate the series of tunnels, hide outs, huts and the famous disappearing gun. The midday heat soon curtailed our explorations and we spent a while sitting on the grass enjoying the breath taking panoramic views of the beaches and bays, the islands in the Hauriki Gulf and the city.
Happy hour drinks overlooking Torpedo bay were the next order of the day but just as we were taking our first relaxing sips we received some distressing news. Erica and Pete were in Christchurch where another large earthquake had just struck resulting in the airport being shut and their flight home that evening being cancelled. A horrible 24 hours ensued whilst we all worried that they wouldn't make it home for Christmas.
