Had a good day, despite thinking that I might not. Not a good nights sleep sharing a dorm with 5 others is probably ok for those on a gap year travelling but it is not high on my list of things that I like to do, and won't be again, and I'm on the top bunk what is it with steps! The place is very well run though and the only downside apart from not sleeping, is that there are only 4 showers and the "happy room" is behind the same doors. There are a lot of people staying in the hostel, so lots of uncomfortable waiting around in the morning, if you see what I mean. But at 9.40 a night inc breakfast can't really complain. After a almost sleepless night added to by the mosque at the end of the plaza about 100yds away having it's call to prayer at 6am over the load speakers (took me back to my time living in Jeddah) I thought that I would go and find Raffles Hotel, a nice tourisy sort of thing to do, wandered around there, went on to one of the war memorials just across the road and then into one of the hundreds of shopping malls in Singapore. Spent some time there found a fantastic jigsaw shop but they didn't send stuff to UK and I could'n't carry anything extra, just as well as I would have spent a fortune. I then found a tour hop on and hop off opentop bus, (a soon a getting on, the bright sunshine turn to torential rain, thunder and lightening, so we all trooped downstairs!!!) which took up the rest of my day hopping on and off travelling around the sights, apparently you only need to be driving for 40 mins to cover all of singapore, I don't think that takes into account the traffic jams. The bus was well worth paying for and even gave me a discount on a balloon ride which I was going to go on anyway, so that was a bonus. I can't remember how high it went, but it was a LONG WAY UP. Pics to come. Tomorrow I am off on a WWII mission, unfortunately I don't think that I will have time to see all that I would like to but I will do my best. So far my impression of Singapore - excellent
