phuket, Thailand
I thought it was about time I enlightened you on what ive been doing. Surprisingly ive not been drinking every night and going crazy we have actually been taking in the scenes and shizz.
The first four days of our travels for me were a little poo so to speak. Basically I stood on a series of rocks and injured my feet, hence the little amount of detail on those days. I do however have to put in here that the hospital on Koh Samaui is AMAZING and the service is awesome…well for a hospital.
Right my travels so far…..
2 and 3rd jan Koh Phangan
I was discharged from the hospital and as soon as we were all reunited we went on my first adventure. The others had hired mopeds and were whizzing around on the island while we were parted so knew roughly the places 'to go' so to speak. We started off but taking the mopeds to a beach called 'nice sea resort'. I'm not going to lie it was so nice, getting there however I did nearly poo my pants when I had my eyes open on the back of the ped. We didn't do much just laid around on the beach listening to two packs of dogs barking at one another and occasionally taking the odd chunk out of eachother too. The night before the other three little rebels had been to the full moon party for NYE and Clara being Clara didn't remember New Year. She was happy enough with her photos thought as she looked happy (amongst other things) in them: P.
The following day the others went on a mini mission looking at ruins, where the king was meant to have bathed and went for a ride on an elephant.
4th JanKoh Tao
We were back on the road again today. After a small holiday it actually felt like we were starting our travels, even if it was with an extra two crutches and seven stitches more than expected. We had to get up at the crack of dawn, and yes tom was already awake and in his hammock reading the worlds longest book. We had packed our stuff had breakfast and departed Hin Kong (where we were staying) by 11 am. Ive not mentioned the driving round here, one word crazy!!! There were two lanes at one point and three lanes of traffic???...as well as mopeds going in and around the cars. It's not at all like England, where is their green cross code eh.
Anyway Koh Tao. Instantly you could see that it was more rural than Koh Pangan. Streets were a lot narrower and the general vibe was just better. We checked into the lotus resort which was no more than 100 steps away from the beach. It was 500 bact each for two nights (which is about a tenner) so you can imagine that it's not the Ritz. The first night we got there went to the nearest restaurant, which happened to be an Indian, and stuffed our faces. As we had been traveling for so long (and I was only on one leg) it was pretty exhausting so as we were in a restaurant which had steppes leading to the beach decided to mong out there for a while. After a while some live music started. Tom couldn't get enough of it!! He was playing four two hours and then there was a fire show. Now this is worth seeing!!!It seemed to be the men that were working in the restaurant by day turned into fire lords by night. On facebook Tom and Clara has photos and a video…look! Basically there were chains with cloth soaked ion petrol (I think) they could spin them so fast it really was remarkable. Well until they decided they would spin in no more than 10 cm above my frizz bomb. It was so close I could hear the flames roaring and the fierce heat on the back of my neck. All I could think about was 'god I really don't want to be in hospital again please don't burn me, please don't burn me'. SCRAY BUT EXCITING!
5-9 Jan
The other three signed up for a scuba course with Siam Scuba, as I was still disabled I could not take part but that didn't mean I wasn't allowed to have fun. We moved into a fifteen day old hotel..yes the steps were high, but well worth the climb. After sleeping in the shack for two days I felt like a princess. The sink functioned properly and the shower was more than powerful enough to get through my hair (whereas I had to use the toilet hose at the other place, don't worry it's not toilet water that come out lol).
For the second night we had our dinner at a place called fizz, again the food was gorgeous and it was situated on the beach also.On the third night we pulled out all the stops and actually ate fresh fish directly on the beach. The other three had prawns which looked more like small lobsters and I had a pink snapper. It was all cooked in front of us and I really have never eaten fish like it…delicious.
On the eighth as the other three went scuba diving a made my way to the hospital where I had my stitches taken out. It was a slower process of recovery than I first thought as I thought as soon as my stitches came off I would be able to loose my bandages and crutches but nooooo I had to give it a few more days. Not all bad though, the others came back around 11am and as I had came off my antibiotics that day and it was our last night in Koh Tao that a small celebration was in order. So after we had showered, changed and eaten we first decided to pamper ourselves and the other three had a massage and I went for the leg waxing. Right when in a foreign country remember they do not use the same wax as you and may pull off your skin instead of the hair on your legs (yes I know, it somehow is possible...).Later Clara, the hard core lady she is decided she wanted a tattoo so she got one done there and then. She was very brave it was a bit weird, almost like she was not enduring but loving the pain. Our final day we got a little tipsy and headed to a lady boy cabaret show. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I don't know if it was because we were a little tipsy but we all had so much fun. Beforehand I had come to the assumption that it was a bunch of woman want to be's dancing around on stage. I was mistaken and I can't really describe why but it was one of the most entertaining shows I have ever watched.
10th Jan Krabi
We departed and began our journey to Krabi. As soon as we got here we could instantly tell that it was not a very touristy area. There was a really annoying tour guide who would not leave us alone and kept appearing. I thought Clara may go mental at him at one point but she restrained herself somehow. We played a game or 10 of pool after dinner and headed back to our room for a slumber party. Rosie drew puppets on her legs and Clara and I on our hands and did a little show which, when played back had us wetting ourselves (Rosie has the evidence).
12th 13th Jan Phi Phi
We began our travels to the island of Phi Phi (pronounced pee pee). On arrival we found ourselves a bed, plonked our bags down and headed to the beach. We did a little sun bathing before going to a fish spa (yeah we sure do know how to pamper ourselves). The following day we went on a tour boat, it took us around all the surrounding islands. We went to mosquito bay, Monkey beach and say Camel Island. We stopped at the beaches and snorkeled or went on kayaks to sure where we could explore. Our final stop was Maya bay, this were Leonardo Dicarprio stared in the film 'the beach' a few years previous. My favorite was monkey bay, it's the first time ive seen real wild monkeys and the beach there was so soft and the water so warm I didn't really want to leave. Maya bay however I did not rate as much, to say it was uninhabited it was smelly and there was rubbish all in the cove. What really put me off was the way we had to get there. We had to jump off the boat and follow a rope to the shore, easy yeah? Not when the waves are really strong, crashing against the rocks and there are lumps of coral preventing you from moving, thank god for my sea shoes!….so yeah, monkey bay all the way!!!!!
14 Jan Phuket
We arrived at Phuket at 9am, as usual I could sleep on the transport Thailand provided unlike the others. This was the first hot shower I had had since I was in hospital. It also had a TV and fridge. For 300 bact a night pretty impressive! Like usual we dumped our heavy bags in the room and began exploring. We go a tuk tuk to the aquarium which was cool. They had some fish in there with names I wouldn't pronounce and were bigger than me. Like I said pretty cool! They were really cool colours and there was coral which was so small the was like a magnifying glass for you to use if you wanted to see it. Next we went shooting. It was a little pricy but still an experience I will have forever. We all got 9mm birettas (I think im not a gun wiz) and we told to aim at the target. The first shot was the scariest, the kick back and noise alone got my blood pumping.Overall Tom and Clara did the best but I was pretty amazed I managed to get five shots in the black area of the target out of ten whoop!
This is my best day so far did I say?! We did what we usually do. Came back to our room, had a shower and ventured out to the shops and to get food. On the way Clara stopped at the cash machine and out of the corner of my eye I saw a donut shop 'mister donuts' tom and I ran in and it was my idea of heaven. We had two then and later on when we went out Clara and I went back for a midnight munch up and got another couple.
15 Jan
We packed up our stuff and before leaving Phuket town went for breakfast in guess where….? Yerrrp Mister Donut. Its love! We then headed to the west of the island to a place called Kata. The sea was lovely and the beach….again breathtaking. In the evening we again, wandered round and there was this military stall containing throwing stars, butterfly knives and that. Tom decided to pretend to zap Rosie with the fake tazer on the table, at worst we thought it would be a fake and they had the real thing in the storeroom if at all. The shop keeper walked over and giggles and with the flick of the switch turned the tazer on. We all jumped back and could stop laughing at the fact that it was sitting there and anybody could use it.
