We arrived in Nairobi late last night and hadnt seen much until today. We got picked up from the airport in an old London black cab, which was a surprise! Everyone drives on the left-hand side of the road as well - there are a lot of throwbacks to Kenya being an ex-colony. Their currency is in shillings as well. The hotel we are staying in is an amazing family run business, it has 4 restaurants, a pool, amazing grounds, and the building dates back to god knows when.
This morning we got up and had a really nice breakfast, and then set off for the city, only to be persuaded by our driver Jimmy that we should visit the giraffe sanctuary, which was great! We got to hand feed them and there were lots of great photo opportunities! He then drove us into the city, which is pretty much like any other big city except its pretty dusty and we stick out like sore thumbs!
Tomorrow the plan is to visit the elephant sanctuary, and then go on to Nairobi National Park - Jimmy made us a good deal! Then we have our pre-departure meeting for the truck journey, and we will finally find out what we have let ourselves in for!
More in a couple of days...
