Hello from Hong Kong!
Simon and I left Thailand at the weekend and flew to Hong Kong on a 3 hour flight, getting in to Hong Kong on Sunday evening. Our hotel is very nice, although we quickly realised that Hong Kong is an expensive place to visit (although our HK friends would disagree!), which doesn't make it a great final stop as by now we've spent loads!
Since getting here we've visited Stanley, an upmarket village by the beach with a touristy market; we got the tram to The Peak, one of the highest points of the island where you get a great view of the city; we visited the Sai Wan Memorial where we left some flowers for my grandad's uncle who died in Hong Kong during WW2; and we had afternoon tea at The Peninsula in Kowloon. Hong Kong is a pretty small place but there's a fair bit to do, and it's really easy to get around - no begging children or people trying to rip you off! Unfortunately for you guys, it makes less exciting reading!
Afternoon tea was definitely a highlight - The Peninsula is a 5 star hotel and inside it is surrounded by shops like Prada, Gucci, Van Clees and Arples...I could go on. Needless to say we didn't visit any of the shops, but we did have a wonderful lunch with scones, canapes and truffles, and of course tea. Yum!
We also met up with some of our friends from university who are both training as lawyers in Hong Kong, and they showed us around some bars and restaurants. Hopefully we're going to be going to Macau with them on Saturday as well, which is a little island nearby where they've built tonnes of casinos, and being a former Portugese colony they have really interesting food there too. Should be fun!
Finally we've also been doing a fair bit of shopping, as there are tonnes of malls here and we realised we have no nice clothes left at all! Lol!
We fly home on Sunday night, getting back to the UK Monday morning. Can't wait to be back and see everyone again! :-)
