Bangkok, Thailand
Arrived into Bangkok airport at about 5.45am today, was just sitting in a streetside cafe - had prawn pad thai and a mango shake. Completely forgot about not having drinks with ice in them (dodgy tap water here) but hey ho :) Lovely pad thai, 120bt for a good sized portion (around 2 GBP) and about 80p for my shake. Have seen a lot of the street vendors selling pad thai for 50bt (50p) so obviously paying a premium for sitting in :-P
So the rundown of today: arrived at airport, picked up my checked bag (was worried I'd never see it again because they transferred it direct from my UK domestic flight to the international flight), waited half an hour for the airport bus (air conditioned thank God!), got off just past the end of Khao San Road about 8am, found my hostel easily enough but had an hour to kill because they needed to change the room over from the previous nights' tenants. Toddled off to an internet cafe, let people (ie Mum) know I wasn't dead. Then had a large Tiger beer and eggy bread for brekkie :-D
Got checked in at the hotel after that, whacked the air con. up full blast and then crashed out for about 5 hours. Got up, showered, felt liberated not bothering with hair and/or make up (gotta love the humidity, great excuse not to worry about appearance).
Went for another wee wander, saw some cool street markets but not feeling brave enough to haggle properly yet (though I was quite proud of myself getting a new pair of poi for 250bt instead of 350bt!).
Looking forward to meeting the tour group tomorrow, can't decide how to get across town to the next hotel I'm staying in - walk, moto (hanging on to the back of a moped with all my bags.. don't think so!) or tuk-tuk?? Quite fancy the tuk-tuk option to be honest but it'll depend on the prices, apparently they're quite adept at scanning foreigners here..
