Yesterday we had a little journey, of only 5 hours from Seattle to Vancouver, which was no time at all considering the journeys we have been doing lately.
When we got on the Greyhound it didnt seem like we had been in Seattle a week at all, though I definately felt more rested then I did before. Which is what a week of watching tv and eating m&m's will do for you I suppose. It felt really good being able just to relax and not have to worry about moving every couple of days so it definately came at the right time!
We did venture into Seattle one day, though it was cold and rainy so we didnt stay too long. We did however see the Pike Place Market, though the men were not throwing fish when we went past, we also saw the Space Needle. We were only 2 blocks away from where the first starbucks was, who knew it started in Seattle? However after this the warm house was calling us and after a quick stop off to replenish our M&M supplies it was back to Renton, where we were staying.
We've been exploring Vancouver this morning and will once again face the cold and the rain to go to a market on Granville Island when the time is up on the PC (I think this is the one you were trying to tell me about dad?) This morning however we have been through the Chinese Quarter and to the Gas Quarter and saw a steam powered clock which chimed every 15 minutes. We also saw a statue of "Gassy Jack" who I believe was about when it first started being built and was named after him as "Gas town" Or something along those lines. It was only later called Vancouver after somebody else later on when the railroads were being built as they felt that was a better name for a stop (I think all that is true but I was only skim reading the guide book). On the state it said that the person sailed from Hull, I am guessing by he on the plaque they mean Gassy Jack as that is who the statue of but can't be too sure. But what I do know is that someone sailed to Hull and was important enough to be mentioned on a plaque in the Gas Quarter which is where Vancouver started from! ... Maybe I should look more into it before I start telling others?
I've also managed to close my Canadian bank account, so me and Sophie have $24.97 canadian dollars to spend today, which may not seem that much between two but for us that seems a lot and we just dont know what to do with it all. That was all that was left in my account, luckily we had just enough last night for the rooms and the key deposit between us (we had all of 97 cents left over) But theres no point in keeping the money as we wont be in Canada again for a long time. I feel some may have to be spent on Canadian chocolate, definately a Wonderbar or two and maybe a hot chocolate in Tim Hortons.
I best go and wrap up warm again. I cannot wait for it to be warm down the west coast again soon!
