Day One - Zambia
So the place I stayed in Livingstone was called the ZambeziWaterfront, and it were tents! The first night I got one that was already set up with a bed in it, but from now on I have to sleep on the ground! It's also been raining here, which is just lovely (sarcasm). Also! My bag broke! The second day I was here I was putting it on my back when the strap broke! Not cool! Now I have to carry it with one strap or by the handle.
Guess what i got to do!!! WALK WITH AND PAT LIONS!!! I did a lion walk with 8month old cubs and we got to pat them and everything!! It was incredible. They are still wild but we had handlers there making sure we didn't get eaten! (Sorry Jessica) Such an incredible experience. Oh & 8month old cubs are not small and little like you'd think!
Day Two - Zambia
Today, I had a lazy morning because I had nothing planned until about 1pm, so I basically went & sat by the Victoria falls river and hung out with some people on the tour & had lunch. Then I went and volunteered with school children doing arts & crafts :) it's amazing how excited they get to see new people and CAMERAS! They absolutely love cameras, and always want you to 'shoot' them, take heaps of photos. One of the kids got my camera and started taking photos of me, it was adorable! Even if I looked hideous. It was really quite special helping these kids, even though they have nothing, they are super happy and all they do is smile. I don't think I'll ever forget this experience, it's really gonna stick.
So it's our last night in Livingstone, and our group has ordered a bunch of pizzas (regular size is $5!!! What the hell!?!?) and we are going to watch the lion king, which is appropriate, being in Africa :)! We actually get to go to pride rock in Tanzania! Cannot wait :)
Day Three -Zambia
Honestly not much to tell, we were up at 5am to shower/pack/pull down the tent/have breakfast before leaving at 7am to drive all day! We stopped on the side of the road to have lunch, which were tuna & salad sandwiches and that was it. I think we got to our campsite around 4pm and set up our tents & such then most of us headed to the pool because it was so hot & humid! And even though we were on a truck ALL day, I got the worst sunburn :( I didn't think to put sunscreen on when I wasn't gonna be outside! But apparently my malaria pills cause some people to get extra sensitive skin to the sun, which is extra worse for me! So I took a long shower & went to bed early cause I was in such bad pain :(
Day Four - Zambia
Another driving day! Same as yesterday, we had to leave at 7am, which isn't as bad as you'd think. The campsite we were at was amazing! (Beside the bathrooms, spiders EVERYWHERE, and by that I mean I had no choice but to shower with GIGANTIC ones! So not cool!!!!!) when I woke up & went for a walk I was greeted with zebras near our tents. They are so beautiful, and there's something magical about sharing the land with non-threatening wild animals, I might change my mind after camping with wild rhinos/lions/buffalo at the Serengeti, but we will see!
Yeah so anyway, driving, driving, driving. We stopped at this weird little town where they had lots of dried fish & bamboo hats. It was just before the bridge patrolled by military which no one is meant to photograph it (punishable by jail or death!!!) google it if you must. Ps I snuck a sneaky photo ;)
These roads are TERRIBLE!!!! So effing bumpy & it's hard to even sit cause you get thrown around everywhere! Doesn't help there are no seat belts to strap you in!
After we set up our tents for the night & had a shower, dinner was ready! We had spaghetti bolognese!!! It was so good! Then there was karaoke at the bar at the campsite where our group leader sang an early happy birthday for me! That was nice :) then I got up and sang 'the gambler' which was terrible! Singing is not my fortè... Wasn't long after that that we went to bed!
