Amy's Travels 2006
Hello from Cambodia!!!
As soon as you cross over from the Thai border to Poi Pet (Cambodia) you can see that this country is so much poorer but it is absolutely amazing here.
It took 14 hours to travel to siem reap from bangkok and the roads in cambodia are pot holded and mud tracks, so not the most comfortable journey. We were also perched on weird small chairs the whole way and think our tiredness numbed the pain and heat. We have never sweated so much and when tasha got up she had a big sweaty bum haha!
We have spent lots of time at Angkor Wat, which for those who have not heard of it is a temple in the middle of the forest surrounded by a massive lake. There are many temples here and each so different but they were built in 1200 AD so are very old and derelict. Some even have trees and their roots growing right through them. It is so beautiful. One of the temples was the film location of Tomb Raider with Angelina Jolie and just this minute we had pineapple juice at the place the crew stayed while here.
The religion here is buddhism so the temples all have buddahs dressed in orange robes and the air is full of incence. WE offered some incense to one of the buddahs in a temple called Bayon yesterday and it is meant to give good luck.
We have seen both sunrise and sunset at Angkor and both were awesome sights. Cambodia is a country I would highly recommend to visit. It was French colonised at one point so has lots of little French influences such as baguettes as the main type of bread and you can buy apricot Bonne Maman jam in the supermarket (i think my mum an gran will be impressed!!)
We're heading back to Bangkok tomorrow though I am not looking forward to the journey again!!
Tasha and rhia have been ill for a little while. Rhia keeps being sick after eating and the other day she couldn't keep down any of her dinner and unlucky as she is, as she came out of the bathroom she wiped out on to the stone floor, hitting her head and hip. I could see her out of the corner of my eye and it was a legs going right over head job. Poor thing, it was pretty funny! She is okay now though...!!
