Saturday 2 January
We get ready to go and head down for breakfast. We try and figure out the metro system tickets and another lady asks us for help. Man, I hope I got the right tickets for her, because it turns out ours were wrong and we could exit the gate. Opps. It's getting pretty hot as we walk towards the complex where the church is. We follow some ppl in, but then we are not sure where to go. Turns out lots of churches and groups meet on the complex. We meet A German group that accidentally walked into the wrong building. Eventually we ask directions and end in the right building. There are many groups already in discussion so we just find a seat and wait it out. They make a big point of saying during announcements how easily you can get lost in a big church, and to help yourself not get lost. I think the welcomers have the most important job in regards to that! It's nice to sing and the sermon is an interesting message on happy new year. There is an AY's after the church but we decide not to stay. We catch the metro to the closest station to the beach. It's a bit of a hike and when we do get there it's all fenced off for what looks like major construction. We go back to a small park and have our lunch. We decide to walk along and see if we can get on somewhere else. We do find a nice beach and it's not as far as we thought. The water is lovely and warm and we spend the rest of the afternoon in the sun. The beach isn't crowded and Malcolm makes a sand castle complex. We leave before sunset, but it's dark by the time we reach our stop. The shops all still look open so I suggest we go shopping. We already have some pre-viewed things in mind. The stores are all still open. We get the things we plan and wander around the streets. On the way back we stop for delicious fruit drinks and grab some food too. Yum. The evening went better than I imagined it. It's supposed to rain tomorrow so I'm glad we got it done now.
