Sunday 16 August
We head off into the city to do the uptown loop today! We have to wait around for the bus, and walk farther than necessary trying to catch sooner busses which we miss! It's not the walking. It's the heat. A heat wave apparently. There is more residential uptown and a university. Very expensive. 5-15 million for lower end apartments, 25+ For higher end. Apparently renting isn't heaps popular here. We skirt around Central Park for most of the loop. The old rich side is very nice looking: old money and museums and trees.
It's about 2:30pm when we get off and head for New York pizza. It's huge and delicious. But very pricey in au $. A rare luxury. We head off and use our free hour bike rental to bike around the Central Park. 50 x 4 blocks. Lots of nice spots, but still a frequent malodour. We get cold drinks and walk back to park and then it's time to join the night tour. It's pretty to see the skyline at sunset. It's very dark once we are done and we shop in street corner stalls selling mainly the same thing as the guy next door. There are these very sweet, cheap necklace watches with faces like lockets.
We buy tickets for the bus, but it doesn't say anywhere which gate. We have to fly to the gate and just just make it on. When we change busses it's the same. We have to run flying down the street to catch it before it moves on. It's a bit of a walk and we stop for a drink on the way back.
