Sunday 29 November
There appear to be no new bites from the new bed for which I'm very thankful. I already look a bit beat up by the last ones. Puffy eyes and red cheeks and neck! We have a relaxing morning getting things sorted for the next segment and then head out in the sun. We plan to go to the other side of the island today. But when we get to the bus station we have missed the bus. It's an hour till the next one so we go exploring. A few things are open and it's an exquisite day: clear, warm and sunny- with no wind! We overlook the cliffs to the beautiful water and surrounding islands. There are lots of donkeys being brought up the cliffs. A lot of them wear bells. It must be annoying for them! We walk along past a few open shops. Malcolm goes to look at the cable car. I'm not up to much walking today! We head back to the bus station at catch the bus after a short wait. We drive for about 20min before we get out. We go to check out the ruins of an apparent 'pre historic' time. It looks deserted , but we keep going in. We get to the door and it's going to cost €5 each, so we decide to give it a pass. We walk down the road to check out 'red beach'. It's mostly a deserted area. What little is out here seems to be closed. There is one tourist shop open. There is a bin around which there are many cats. Maybe 8 or so! We get to the point and it looks like it's red volcanic rock and in danger of crumbling! There are danger signs up. There is a small beach we make our way to. It's covered in a thick layer of dry chaff like reeds. Makes it thick and spongy. We do find some sand to sit down and enjoy the sun. I do some reading and Malcolm goes for a swim. We only have 2 hours before we have to catch the last bus back at 2:50pm. When we get back to the bus stop there are a few other ppl waiting too and a private taxi van offers us a ride for the same bus fare. We all take it. Once back in the main town we stop by our hotel and then go and get some late lunch of tomato balls and stuffed tomatoes and peppers finished with ice cream. We enjoy the rest of the afternoon relaxing and watching the sea from our room. The subset is lovely.
