What can I say about Venice...it was an unbelievable, magical and amazing city!! We arrived there a month ago in readiness for the Venice Film Festival but missed George Clooney and Brad Pitt by an afternoon. We got there exhausted from 27 horrible days at sea with only a very short stop in both Las Palmas and Morocco for fuel. So when we arrived and were told that a canal tour and dinner had been organised for the crew for the night, it was definitely a good reason to shave the legs and dress like a lady for the first time in months!!We were taken around the entire city and shown all the major sights in the back of a water taxi, glass of champas in hand. Then we went to dinner in a small intimate restaurant to taste all of the Venetian specialties. Brilliant night, but far too much of the good Italian vino.We had plenty of time off while we were there as the boss did not join us and had the opportunity to eat out a lot, did some amazing shopping near the Rialto, went to the Murano glass factory for some incredible Venetian glass, went to the Sky Lounge at the Hilton for cocktails, had Bellini's at Harry's Dolce and watched the Gondola Regatta on the Grand Canal. We also toured the Palazzo and the Bridge of Sighs off St Marks Square and had manicures in the salon under Elton John's house. We left Venice on the 15th to head back to Antibes to await further instructions. We sailed past Mt Etna at sunset which was amazing and then stopped at Malta overnight which was really cool. Not long before arriving we sailed past the Stromboli Volcano at midnight. We were about a mile off and it was spurting and steaming. A pretty incredible experience to be so close to a massive active volcano watching it do its thing. We are now back in Antibes and again waiting further instruction. We have our berth booked until the 14th of October and after that we will probably do the Atlantic crossing to Fort Lauderdale, in readiness for the Caribbean season.I have my leave approved for the next passage, which is brilliant - I think I have done enough sea time in the last few months. So I am now looking forwards to coming home and seeing everyone in about 4-6 short weeks!!But for now, I am in Amsterdam getting my US Visa, and having a good old time. We are here for about 4 days until we are approved so it is all about the canals, windmills and clogs and meeting up with all the family of course. Not much time, Poffertjes are calling xxx
