Day 3-

I spent the morning in Palermo (intending to catch the night train to Salerno at 9pm) the. Checked at the train station to find that the night train was fully booked...

Quick change of plan, I jumped on a train to Messina hoping to catch an earlier train up to Salerno.

Plan B failed too so had to improvise, found a boat/ferry that makes 2 crossings a day that left at 00:30 and got me to Salerno at 09:30. After a slight dilemma getting the ticket I sat and waited for the ferry. Didn't get a great deal of sleep as I only had a tiny portion of a sofa (did have the full amount til a family of 4 muscled their way on and spread out....) but got enough sleep not to be a zombie.
