G'day Cobbers!!!
Ok, so we're in Australia now finally! Really excited and can't wait for what lies ahead!
We are actually in Sydney now and we've been in OZ for 9 days, and to our disappointment 1,000 pounds down, Yes pounds. =-(We don't know what on. Maybe it was those lucky charm cereal pots Tom found (3.50 Bucks each) but he says they are totally worth it?
Anyway when we arrived in Melbourne we had a rush of fresh air to our lungs which was amazing as for the past 6 weeks we'd had dust and dirt polluting them. But the fresh air comes at a price, the price was -1 Degrees when we arrived but the temperature warmed up to around 15+ which weren't so bad.
For the first few days in Melbourne we kind of just laid around, relaxing - pretty much doing nothing. We stayed in a hostel in ST Kilda but only stayed one night as it was quite far out in the sticks so we moved to the center of Melbourne. The people here were so friendly and welcoming, for instance we'd be looking at a map and random people would just stop and ask *Doya need any help there?* which obviously we did, every time! The trams were easy enough to get around on even though we never paid to use them only because we didn't know how! So we basically got around Melbourne for a week for free!
For two days we just spent shopping and spending money, We also went to the cinema and watched Bridesmaids (So funny) But we won't be going to any more cinema's in the near future as this came to 30 bucks for two tickets. What a joke! The next day we went back to St Kilda Beach and to a few cafes and bars along the street, this place was really rural and rustic if that's the word. People don't really care what they were here either and neither do we. J We stayed in a place called YHA and it was ok but the kitchen was so small, probably the size of a double bed, accommodating 200 people. Joke. But we managed to cook our packet meals… MMMMM de-lish. :/
We are sat here trying to think what's happened over the past week and to be honest we can't remember or the fact was we just slept, ate, drank and spent money in shops - we both don't care it was worth it! The last day we had in Melbourne we went to the MCG stadium which had a 100k capacity. There were 75,000 people when we went, and that was just a local game! But the atmosphere was, well let's say.. Loud? 75k people still doesn't beat the 5k Portsmouth fans! We supported ESSEDON - they lost by the way. The aussie rules game was really good and we got the hang of the rules after an ozzie sat next to us and explained them. We found it really weird how all 75k fans were just in mixed seats sitting next to their allies but we spoke two one of the blokes and they said after the game there's never any trouble and they all just get the same train and head home! No police or anything. Crazy, you put 5000 Portsmouth fans in a stadium with 1000 saints and theirs 500 police, 2 deaths, 18 stabbings and 6,000 black eyes!
So back to our journey if your still reading and not bored! We next got the greyhound bus up to Canberra which is the Capital of Australia, The locals say it was a farm 100 years ago and Brisbane and Sydney were fighting over who was going to be the capital so they built a little city on the farm. Crazy, there's a fact for you, who'd have thought our blogs would be educational! Yer anyway we only spent one day here as every time we told someone we were heading up here they just laughed at us. It was a 9 hour bus journey from Melbourne to Canberra which wasn't too bad. That day we hired two bikes, Amy broke one of them straight away but luckily we didn't have to pay any money for it. We cycled 10km to a zoo which was really fun we both enjoyed that, shame it was ruined with the bike ride back! But we both managed and survived. We treated ourselves to a lovely/expensive meal (seeing as it's been a week since we've eaten out) and both got ribs and steak, it was bloody lovely we must add. That day we had to get another grey hound bus at 7pm for our 3 and half hour journey to Sydney, we are staying in a 6 bed dorm which we are only paying for a 10 bed dorm as they were fully booked, Amy's Mum+Dad was kind enough to pay for our first night in Sydney (Which he hasn't paid for yet) L which was really nice of them. We just hope other people are that generous (Hint hint toms mum and dad) J We really like the *wake up* hostel and we plan to stay here for a good few weeks/months as there's a few job opportunities for us, that's if we take them or not, We will prob head to the beach as it's supposed to be 25 degree's here today so we will take a stroll to bondi, we've yet to have a bbq, which is greatly disappointing!
Anyway that's all for now from the couple down under. Hope you enjoyed our blog and we'll keep you updated on are next destination. Cya Dingo's! (We saw and stroked them yesterday) J Love us Tom and Amy xxxxxxxxxxx
