hi all!
since our last entry we had two days left in sydney. on these days we caught a ferry to manly which was lovely, altho the weather was a bit cloudy! this was probably a good thing as we did a 10km coastal walk! saw some really pretty views and actually really enjoyed it! that evening we then went to the rocky horror show at the star city theatre which was really entertaining and good fun! unfortunately we couldnt get phil and lynne to dress up in fishnets tho! on our last day in sydney we went to toronga zoo - which ahd amazing views of the opera house and harbour bridge and also walked throught the gardens which were really beautiful and had lots of good photo opportunities! on our last evening in sydney we had cocktails in a bar over looking the harbour! the views were gorgeous, especially when the sun was setting and after a few cosmos! we then went for our final meal with beckys mum and dad at the oldest hotel in sydney and had an ice cream and an evening stroll around the harbour. we then had to say goodbye to them - but thankyou for everything whilst we were in sydney, we had a wonderful time and loved all the restaurants we went too!
we were quite sad to leave sydney as we both thought it was our favourite place in aus! but next stop was melbourne!! we were shocked when we arrive as it was cold and wet - not what we had been used too!
our first day in melbourne we did a day trip along the great ocean road. it was a long day and most of it was spent on the bus, but we still saw Bells beach, which is a famous surfing beach and hosts the ripcurl pro competition, saw wild koalas at kennett river, went to apollo bay, walked through the Otway rainforest, visited the london bridge, the 12 apostles and saw some wonderful views all oalong the coast!
we also went to an afl match at the mcg stadium which was really good fun! we didnt understand much of what was going on but can only describe the game to be a combination of soccer, rugby, basketball and volleyball! we kind of got the hang of it by the final quarter! the weather brightened up for us and i got involved with the tradition of a meat pie and a pint! we also visited the victoria markets and went to the famous neighbours night! we met karl and dylan and had our photos taken with them!! it was a really fun night and we met up with andy who is also travelling at the moment so it was great to see him.
we arrived at melbourne airport raring to go to start our adventures in new zealand! we were first in the queue (dad you have taugh me well) and there seemed to be a bit of a caffuffle behind the desks, we were soon told that out flight had been cancelled as the aircraft had been struck by lightning! we were waiting for over an hour before anything was sorted but fortunately as we were first in line we were given all of our possible options first and able to choose what we wanted to do. we decided to stay over night and take a place on the flight the following day. they put us up (free of cahrge of course!) in a very nice hotel just outside the airport. when we got there they checked us into the suite!! we had 2 tvs and a massive hot tub in the bedroom!!! so we were very pleased with oursleves and had a lovely relaxing evening of pampering and making full use of the luxuries! we then headed back to melbourne airport the next day to find that our flight was delayed due to the gale force winds! i dont think they wanted us to leave aus! but eventually we arrived in christchurch early hours of this morning. we were anticpating very cold weather, however we have been pleasantly surprised at its really mild sunny! we are starting our kiwi experience tour on saturday which we are both really looking forward to. it looks great fun and cant wait to get involved in all of the activities! dont worry tho mum, no bungys!!!
bring on new zealand!!
all our love and hope all is well back home, amy and becky xx
