Tamara and I are finally here in Ireland - the last leg of our travels! We arrived in Dublin at 6am this morning after travelling ALL night on a coach :P Needless to say we are both extremely tired and are planning on an early night tonight.
The trip over was fine. It isvery hard to sleep on the coach. We were hoping that there wouldn't be that many people on the overnight coach so we would be able to spread out, but no such luck :( Oh well, maybe on the way home.
So far I am really enjoying Ireland! We drove from Dublin to Belfast today. The weather was beautiful so we stopped to have a walk around Phoenix Park. (Dad I kept up our critter hunting tradition from Canada, chasing the deer through the park so that I could get a photo! ) We had a lunch stop in a little town just over the border (the name escapes me right now) and visted the head of Oliver Plunkett in St Peters Church. On our way to Belfast city centre we stopped at the ruins of a monastery with the very first celtic cross, 5m in height - it was erected to tell the story of the bible through pictures to the people living in Ireland at the time because they were unable to read and write.
This afternoon was really interesting! Once in Belfast we hopped on a black taxi tour and they took us around for a couple of hours telling us all about the trouble between the Catholics and the Protestants. We visited a few major sites and got out to take photos and then finished off at the peace wall where we were able to write our own messages of peace. The men running the tour were so knowledgable - information overload! :)
Tommorow we travel to Derry, going to the Giants Causeway on the way, YAY!
The hostel we are in tonight is pretty good, soI assume most of them will be much the same, except for one night when we stay in a pub called the Randy Leprachaun! The best thing about this hostel though is that it has very internet!!
Hope all is well at home! Lots of love, Amy xox
