Hey,
now in Mendoza and have less than 2 weeks until we come home :(.......can´t believe how quickly time has gone by!
Since La Paz, Josh and I have still been travelling with this big group. There are 11 of us in total and we all met in La Paz. 8 guys and 3 girls!! All 18 - 19 on a gap year before uni...so perfect group!! lol
We went to Potosi in Bolivia, where the mines are and we all did a mine tour....which had absolutely no health and safety regulations.....definitely something that would NEVER have occured in GB!! It was good though...and we got to buy Dynamite and blow thigs up which was pretty cool!! It was an eye opener though to see the poor conditions the miners had to work in!!
After Potosi we all went to Uyuni where we stayed for a night before starting our 3 day Salt Flats tour. That night we went to a pub called, the EXTREME FUN PUB (about the only thing in Uyuni) and it was absolutely hilarious....as well as getting rather drunk the drinks came in very very crude glasses which we all found just hilarious.......check out the facebook photos!!
We started the salt flats tour.....with the first day actually on the salt flats. Our group split between 2 jeeps but we we always together....as same company. The salt flats we great.......very serial.....really felt like you had just landed in Mars as we had just never seen anything like it before! Dead flat for miles and miles! Got some fantastic photos thouhgh......again facebook! That night we stayed in a salt hotel which was very fun as we all got rather drunk and as we were at altitude as well went down VERY well.
The next 2 days we saw some amazing scenery...lakes....mountains...volcanoes.....gyzers (sorry about the spelling) ....hot spings etc. The last night we stayed on the tour we all got smashed....including our guide which was very very funny and we had such a good night most people dont rememer it and we ended up annoying all the other groups at the hostel too! Oooppps....haha!!
We then all decided to randomly go to Chile so we were dropped at the boarder....where we went to the boarder town and got a bus to Santiago. It was sooo nice to be back in heat having been at altitude for the last month and a half with not much heat or sun...so to walk round in shorts was bliss.
Santiago was a lovely city and we had a good few ngihts there before getting a bus straight East across the boarder to Mendoza. Another stamp on the passport....
In Mendoza now....been her a few days....love it!! Argentina is very much Westerised compared to some of the northern countrys so everything is cleaner and you can walk the street at night and have bars and restarants buzzing with life......except nothing really starts until at least 12 here. Everything is late.......for example last night dinner was at 11pm and we didn´t go to bed until 7am......hostel breakfast time!
The hostel is stunning.....nice and comfy with the luxury of a pool as well so the girls and I have happily had 2 days doing nothing but lying by the pool trying to catch at least some colour...having been out of the sun for so long!
Tomorrow I think the plan is to go on a wine tour on bikes then I think we are going to Buenos Aires on Sunday evening. If I am brave enough I think I am going sky diving on Sunday daytime as well with a few of the guys!!!! .....Eeek!
Anyway will probably update this once more before I see you all at home....so hope you are all well and see you soon!!!
Much love
Amy
