Hello from sunny Caloundra, sunshine Coast Australia. Last time I wrote I promised posts would become more regular so here we go....
Our last week in Sydney went by in a flash! We were busy planning our departure and saying our farewells to new and old friends!!
I last wrote the blog on the 14th of March which was my day off but as the 15th was Leona Edmiston's (work) big VIP event day I had to go in to help set up and organise goody bags, steam a million dresses and
finalise guest lists etc. After work us girls all went for drinks and a feed which went until the early hours, a fun night. Ed was out for work drinks too!!
The big event day went so well and we made an impressive $7500, it was a hectic day and hair, make up and outfits had to be at their best. We had cupcakes and champagne to get us through the catwalk and hours of service without breaks. Ed was feeling worse for wear when I got home and I was so tired we lounged on the sofa and had an early night.
Sunday Ed met friends we had made in Vietnam for a few beers whilst I had work! Afterwards we met and had a fantastic roast at Dec and Marnie's we were stuffed and made our way home late.
It was lovely to see our families together on Skype on the 17th before the start of our last week of work :)!
I had worked so many hours the last few weeks that I had a day off on the 19th (Happy Birthday Jens) so walked along the hermitage track towards Watson's bay visiting the secret beaches as it was a gorgeous day. After a sunbathe I then made my way to shark beach which is a fantastic spot to swim.
Eds last day was the Friday so he worked hard for his last 5 days coming home late at night as he didn't finish till gone 8! I was lucky enough to have 2 more days off before my last day on the Saturday so Beth and I completed for the last time the Bondi to Coogee walk setting off from Rosebay which took around 2 hours there and 2 hours back. We had a swim, sunbathe and a yummy BBQ with ciders at Coogee which was just fantastic, great quality time with my best friend before we won't see each other again for another 6 months. The next day we went to shark beach for the day and enjoyed a mini bush walk which we saw our first snake and ran a mile haha!! After having too much sun we headed back. I showered and got ready and Beth straightened my hair for the first and last time in a long while. We said goodbyes and she headed to meet her hostel friends whilst I headed to a bar to meet my work friends for my leaving night out. Ed also had his leaving night out with his work friends which he was buzzed for and he definitely deserved as his job sounded god awful at times!
Laura my manager, the girls and I headed to bars and a quick eat before Laura treated us all to a night in her sons bar on the famous Oxford street in Sydney city. We had a brilliant night consuming way too many cocktails and dancing the night away a great send off, very lucky to have made such lovely friends!!
I had my last day at work which was so fun with Laura and we were both very sad to say bye to one another, I had got Laura a card and sweet treats to thank her so much for everything. I got home and Ed and I chilled out before walking to Bondi to meet Marnie and Dec for our farewell meal. We drank cocktails at Ravesis which were fabulous and then ate amazing Italian at A Tavola before tucking into yummy gelato from Messinas. We were spoilt rotten and cannot thank them both enough, for EVERYTHING. We had a great night laughing and joking and will miss meals together with these guys it's been an absolute pleasure.
On Sunday the 23rd I headed to the beach and enjoyed breakfast with work girls before a stroll along the beach and our final goodbyes. It has been so fun at Leona and I was so lucky to land such a fantastic job. When I got back we prepared our cases and cleared our clothes to make extra room. We binned a lot of stuff and took bits to the charity shop. In the mean time we used up our last ingredients to make an apple crumble for our meal tonight.
Beth and Jacob headed over and we enjoyed a day on the harbour kayaking and racing to different secluded beaches. It was great fun. A Chinese couple had brought a kitten to the beach which was bizarre!! Once we had had enough sun we headed home enjoyed some goon watched a film and cooked up a Mexican feast which was delicious. We were all stuffed to the brim. We popped some champagne and had a chin chin to say farewell, it was a sad goodbye but so happy we got to experience Sydney with these guys it's been a fantastic 4 and a half months!!
The 24th of March was a miserable day like the day we arrived in Sydney- it chucked it down. We spent the day cleaning, doing washing, packing and sending parcels home. We picked up a yummy dessert as we were having our final dinner at Dec and Marnie's. I had a call from a lady interested in the ad I posted about selling my Leona dresses and she brought 4 for $150 I was ecstatic and posted them right away :)!!
We said goodbye to our house mates Shane and Saliya which have been great fun and headed for dinner. It was yummy we had our favourite couscous that Marnie perfects and tucked into our yummy patisserie dessert. We were delighted when Dec and Marnie gave us gifts for our travels. Ed a pair of earphones and me a Garmin sports watch that tells me how far I run/walk. We were gobsmacked and so grateful as we didn't expect it.
At 11pm we said goodbyes at the station and boarded the greyhound bus!! It was sad to say bye to both Dec and Marnie and the beautiful city. I shed a few tears on the bus as we reminisced on our time well spent this side of the world.
Great experiences that we both won't forget and will share for a lifetime! Sydney is our second home and somewhere we will always feel drawn back to visit. It's been great fun and an invaluable learning curve that has taught us so much!!
Keep checking the blog to read about our first leg up the coast....
