In Piahia we just walked around the shops and tried dory fish and chips, recommended by others. We both feel the blue nose fish is best by far. We walked to the Waitangi Treaty House but did not go inside due to time being nearly gone on our parking permit. The good news is we walked about 2.5 miles and it felt good to be moving under our own power. We did purchase tickets to see the show that night called Culture North. This is a production that tells the story of the Maori. The producer/writer was our guide on the bus that took us back to the Waitangi Treaty House for the show. It was a good show and was told in the Maori language and in English.
The Waitangi Treaty House is where in 1840 Govenor William Hobson signed on behalf of Queen Victoria and with Maori chiefs a pact to end the Maori-Pakeha conflict, guarantee the Maori land rights, and gave them the colonists Crown protection, and admit NZ to the British Empire. The house is now a museum.
While waiting for the last ferry to Russell we went into a bar and had hot chocolate and a beer. It was a quiet day of us due to the jet lag.
I am certainly greatful we did not rent a camper van, didn't need the stress of narrow roads.
