Hey ya'll,
So long time (I think?) no speak?! I seem to have fallen out of the blog writing mood? Not sure why, but it has happened! I will write a quick note however, just so you guys are updated :) :) :)
Had a good flight from NY to Paris, via Ireland (oh how I want to visit Ireland!!!) and as per usual could not sleep on the flight lol, but there were little tvs in the back of the chairs (sign of a flash plane aye Cherie hehe) so I was happy!
Got a cab from the airport to our little (and when I say little, I mean our two "single" beds were pushed together to make a double bed lol) hotel in Paris. Our taxi driver looked like Charlize Theron's character, Aileen, from the movie Monster and didn't speak but instead yelled. That coupled with Mum's obvious amnesia of any French she learnt and the fact I hadn't sleep in what seemed like forever, was a bit of a rocky start!
The weather was s***t most of our time in Paris, and I have grown no fonder of the city than the last two times I visited but we still did a decent amount of sightseeing - the usual stuff like Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe etc etc etc. Spent the Thursday night at Moulin Rouge, which was fun although I was a bit disappointed that the show was EXACTLY the same as when Laura, Lizy, Brad and myself saw it in 2008! Exactly the same, down to a t! But the delicious food and champas more than made up for that!
My birthday was spent very low key - did a nice cruise of the Siene River and then had a nice dinner at a NY style restaurant lol. The plan was to go shopping, but as it was Easter Monday we quickly realised that ALL the shops were shut! = Epic fail!
Caught the train to France, which was a nice change of transport! Real spacious (albeit we were in first class....) and cute little fold out tables too. Although it was so comfortable it definitely reminded me of the long hauls that Cherie and I accomplished in South America (feels like so long ago!?) just in a more luxurious fashion (guess that comes from travelling with your mother haha!) - anyway, we got up at 5am, arrived in San Sebastian, Spain at about 430pm: 3 taxis and 3 trains later! There had been a crash on the tracks (car 0 - train 1) so hopefully our next train trip (tomorrow to Madrid) will be a lot smoother!
San Sebastian is great! I love it so far, and hope that the rest of Spain is equally as super! Very cute little town - we are staying in the Old Town but even the New Town/City is still cute and old school-ish. Where we are staying there is pedestrian-ised with the only traffic being in the morning for restaurant deliveries. So during the day is just people people people walking the cobble stone lanes and little kids playing soccer in the plaza. Holy moly these kids are amazing at it to! Like 4 years old and mad kicking skills! Crazy!
Walked up the two hills that bookend the beach (well walked up one, caught the funicular up the other) which gave some nice panoramic views of the city. The beach looks amazing but it's still be very cold so no swimming has occured! The sun is out though so fingers crossed for the rest of Spain it stays that way!
