Hi!
Am having a lazy day at Gina's today so thought I may as well update you all! Unfortunately there won't be any new photos for a while cause I don't have a camera cord with me! Grah! Anyways, I have been pretty slack with the sightseeing - will be starting that properly tomorrow, but anyway, here's an update!
Wed 10/03: Bummed around during the day - mostly due to a combination of sleeping in and then trying to find a net cafe with skype (harder than it sounds!) but had a wander through some farmers markets that were near Gina's work, before meeting up with her and having apple pie. Yum yum!! Went to Screaming Mimi's which is a vintage clothing sotre, real cool place and bought myself an uber cute to boot little bag/purse with fringe! eeee! I love fringing, this is my new obsession me thinks!
We did a bit of window shopping in Soho also, and went into one crazy store where I swear none of the sales assisstants actually do work; they just stand there and look all hott and say "hey guys, whats up?!". It's bizarre! The store is cool though, real dark, lots of levels and plants and the windows have tvs in them so instead of looking outside you see videos of the beach etc. Strange, I know.
We met up with Gina's friend Geffery and went to a magazine event; it was held in the coolest mosaic shop ever! I don't really understand the whole point of these events, like I know it's to network but I felt like we were at a cool mosaic event rather than anything to do with the magazine! haha! I'm not complaining though! Did a bit more bar hopping though and drank Tecate all night (yay, mex memories!)
Thursday 11/03:
Inside day today, how lazy am I? I can't help it though cause the weather is so poos right now! Like leg warmer/llama jumper cold (even in the house) and pouring with rain. Not fun times! But luckily I took lots of photos on the Tuesday when it was sun sun sunny! We had NY style pizza tonight. Holy mother of god, it was the biggest pizza I have ever seen! Like I couldn't even eat two pieces! Insanity!
Friday 12/03:
I braved the weather today (stupid thing to do) and went to the Museum of Sex. Yeah, it was ok, really quite mind numbingly boring though! But was cheap and on the way to Gina's work! I can not tell you all enough how freaking cold it was! And my US$10 boots did nothing to help me - instead I walked around with puddles of water in my shoes all day! Which brings me to the next point - people here, and when I say people, I mean like 90% of females... wear gumboots?! What is that about!? They are called rainboots here and now I am kicking myself for not buying some in Argentina when they were cheap AND cute. We went shopping for some for me, but I really couldn't get past the whole, they belong on a farm theory!?
I was lucky enough to tag along with Gina as she showed her friend/yoga teacher Michael some apartments in town. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the area, but it's a decent area to live and in the city etc etc. Anyway, they were about US$2000-2200 p/month. Heaps right? And about the size of a decent sized bedroom. The whole apartment that is. I.e. miniscule! I find it crazy to think that people pay that price just for location!? Especially coming from Auckland where people would rather pay more to live out of the CBD! haha!
Friday night is gay night, so we did a bit of bar hopping again! Gina's friends are really lovely so we all had a good night!
Saturday 13/03:
We learnt our lesson from trying to do stuff in the weather so avoided going out at all costs today! It was a really nice relaxing day spesh since it was like a monsoon outside! I got to catch up with Cherie on skype which was lovely and we played taboo and just generally bummed around. Bliss! And called Bradley for his birthday! oh how I miss that boy!!!!
Sunday 14/03:
Went to Chinatown today! Eeee! Even the McDonald's and Burgerking signs were written in Chinese. That's crazy cool! We got to go into one of the secret rooms at the little asian knockoff stores that have all the fake branded bags etc which are illegal to sell in NY. Seriously, like a secret door to a secret room. Strangeeee!
Went for a walk along Manhattan bridge which gave us a cool view of Brooklyn Bridge. Am slowly starting to not freak so much when I hear the subway go past and this was a good way to deal with it as we could barely even speak to each other from all the trains constantly going past!
After this we walked through Little Italy, which is very little! And cute! and then had dinner at a Brazlilian restaurant (still hating on Brazil... but this food was amazing) in a area called Alphabet City! What is that about!? Lol! Had a hoffbrau brew after at the pub next door and afterwards met up with Gina's friend Cristina for a few more. Good times!
Today I am resting up cause the next few days are gonna be a bit full on - starting with proper sightseeing tomorrow, getting my hair done (yay finally; goodbye ginga!), another event, then.... St. Patties day! Hello costumes and face paint!
Love u all and miss my girls back home :(
