Hi!
Hahaha - this picture is actually of Salar de Uyuni which are the salt flats ... so not quite where I am at the moment - but all of the pictures for Chile were lameo or not relevant so chose this! That is what the salt flats normally look like, when there isn't a layer of water over them - you can see like octagon shapes, that's because they are so dry that they crack!
Anyway, as far as I remember the last post I made was in Mendoza! Oh, how I loved Mendoza!
I won't lie, we were very slack in terms of sight seeing, but after being away from civilisation for so long (i.e. in the outback of hori Bolivia) more pressing issues were calling us as opposed to sight seeing.... SHOPPING!!!
Hahhaha I guess, in a way, that still counts as sight seeing yeah???
We were in Mendoza for maybe 5 days, and seriously every day, all day (bar one) we shopped shopped shopped! I won't go into detail about every purchase I made (on my very tight budget that I obviously didn't stick to) but you get the idea (p.s. I bought the most beautiful dress! yay!)
We did however manage to do one touristy activity.... we went on a wine tour!! It was very different to my expectations (of sitting on a wooden outdoor table, overlooking the vineyard, sampling delicious wine and eating an even more delicious lunch....... in the sun.....) but was interesting and relatively enjoyable...! We went to a normal wine factory thingy, and then an organic one and learnt some pretty cool stuff about how they make it all. The tour also took us to an olive oil factory which I found to be poke-myself-in-the-eye boring .... but the silver lining was that we bought some tasty olive oil infused with rosemary. We also were taken to a liquer/chocolate factory so bought some more goodies there hehe. Lesson in this is not to book the tour through our 50/60 year old hostel manager Gustavo. As lovely as he was, his recommendation sucked!
We caught the bus (yes, another one... and our last one!!) on Friday to Santiago... the usual story of being told it would be 7 hours and it turning into 10... But, that was fine because..... we had forgotten until we got on the bus... that..... we booked EXECUTIVE CLASS tickets!! LOL! Yaya! That's right, that's how we roll!!! Well, that's how we roll when the executive class is only ARG 10 Pesos (NZ $4.) more expensive than the s***ty cattle class that we normally take! Bahaha! Bus luxury at it's finest!
The border was a joke, it took hours, and we had a few looneys on our bus (what's new) but we made it and although we haven't had a proper look around yet, Santiago looks very promising! I like! And I think that Cherie will really enjoy her time here this year!
We are staying in the bohemian like area, and our hostel is cute - only a road away from the bars etc. Had a strange dinner last night that resembled baby food but tasted delicious. Also, had to sleep on the top bunk which panic-ed me a little as there were no safety bars (as Cherie pointed out - I suppose they assume that adults won't roll out of bed...) but alas, I survived the night!
Today we are looking at an apartment that hopefully we will be shifting into asap ! Fingers crossed!!!
So yeah everybody, this is my final stop for a few weeks (34 days to be exact) before I am on my own (for all of maybe 15 hours ahhahah) when I venture to the airport and make my way up to NYC and meet my darling Gina!!!
Hopefully we won't be too boring and I will have lots of exciting adventures to fill you in on, until my new adventure with Gina starts.... hehehhe I am so excited!
xxxxx Happy Valentines Day xxxx
