Amelia, Round The Other Side!
Got to waitomo...or should i say the turn off for waitomo late morning! Bus wouldnt take me into the caving area of the vilage (although its just really caves wiht toursist attractions!) thankfully at the junction there was a motel (and that was about it!!) i called hostel and they ca,e and picked me up an hour later!! i just sat in the sun wathing lorries thundering by! was an interesting point in my life!! the hostel i stayed at was well cool! it was called juno hall and was out in a fiels (much like the whole of wiatomo) they had goats and horsesd and a huge pig! it was a wooden challet style hostel and was really cosy wiht log fies ect.. i went tumo tumop toobing in the afternoon!!! it was the most amazing caving experince! (not only cause the guide fancied me ha ha!) it was meant to be 4 hours from start to finish but we ended up spending about 4.5 hours underground so we were away for near;y 6 hours! was great! you just cannot do stuff like this back in the uk as it would be considered too dangerous!! i amean we were jumpi9ng and clambering and squeezing through rocks and there were sometimes huge holes and crevases and just one miscalculation and you would have been in serious trouble!! it was great!! we were suited up in these wet suits and jackets and helmets and rubber boots! (you should see my photos!!!!) was a very sexy ensemble!! we had to climb through this tiny hole and down some ladders to get into caves! tricky its self! then wander down stream through waist deep pools and streams and under and through rocks!! after a while we got to this big huge pool of water and the guide started on about killer eels!!! and getting a traget to decoy! ME!! i got a big x marked on my back and had to jump into pool through a drak tunnel! was pretty scary!! we also went though a ritual of caking our selves in cave mud like warriors and then linking arms waist deep in water wiht wet suots zipped down and having water fights and dunking ourselves! great fun! the guide (duane or dee as we called him) then got us all to put oour hand on the shoulder in front and turn off the lights and he led us through thi part of the caves in complete darknes so we could see the glowworms! they were awesome!!!!! this is when i got an incling that the guide fancied me as he took my hand off his shoulder and held it!! very professional ha ha!!! we clambered over more rocks and through someholes that were so small i even struggles to get through let alone the big guys in the group (just 6 of us). eventualy we got to a spot where we picked a giant ineer tube sat on it and floated around in the dark underneath the glowworms!!! iot ws soo cool!!! i received a back rub at this point!! very professional again!! ha ha! he was cute though, tall, maori. shame i dont have a photo! it has got to be one of the coolest things i ahve done! i also went under water through rocks into a secret caving chamber! only two of us did it!! and i also saw something called a cave wetter or webber?? they are about the sixe of your fist and look like gaint spiders!!!!!! dee made me climb these ricks when leaving the cave which i though was an easier way to get up or something and then he said look up and there they were!!!!!! i fell off the riocks got such a fright! was caught though!! i thought they were spiders!! they were horrible!! apparently you only get them in new zealand and they are in the king kong movie!! god they gave me the creeps! palled about wiht a girl during all this called maioma. she was japanese! tiny girl!! that night just chilled in hostel and chatted to folk! everyone was exhausted from varying caving experiences! Mine was pretty physical! and we had the oldest couple ever to do it! they were american and travelling around and doing everything, glacier hiking, rafting the lot!! menatlist!! in the early 70's!!! they were cool!
