Mendoza is the centre of Argentina's wine making industry so as soon as we arrived there, Amerjit & I signed up for a trip round two bodegas and to taste their wines. The first was medium sized and the second was a small family-run place which exports all of it's wine to the US, to Kentucky to be exact, which the Americans in the tour group found amusing as residents of Kentucky are not known for their wine appreciation. Anyway, I've now decided that I really like Malbec.
We also visited an olive oil and dried fruit business where we did some more tasting which helped to soak up the wine we'd tried earlier.
We visited the Alta Montana, the mountains in the region around Mendoza where we saw the Puente del Inca, a natural stone bridge formed by sediments from the nearby river. The land around was stained bright yellow from the ochre in the water. We then caught a bus across the Andes via some very twisty turny roads into Chile to arrive in Santiago. The mountain scenery on the way there was stunning, we passed through ski resorts which were closed down for the summer season and some scary looking ski lifts.
