So the adventure has finally started! Monday evening we rendezvoused at Heathrow terminal 3. After being offered a cheap Miami trip by a lovely Emirates worker (maybe next year), we browsed Kurt Geiger, Gucci and Harrod's in departures, only dreaming obviously!
The flight was delayed by 45 minutes so we took full advantage of the freebies that Emirates offer; phone charging points, free newspapers and magazines. The flight was great, just as we settled down and chose a film out of the selection of hundreds (we both chose a Disney film, will we ever grow up?), we were handed a 4 course meal for free, complimentary drinks of course, one of us made the most out of the free wine, guess who?
After a 3 hour sleep, we landed in Dubai Airport, around 8am Dubai time, 4am in the UK. We had to wait an hour in a queue to get through security, but easily grabbed our bags off the belt and took a taxi straight to the hotel (a ladies only taxi, which I thought was fab because it was pink and smelled lush!).
We stored our backpacks at the hotel and took a free shuttle to Dubai Marina, we soon found the beach and caught up on our sleep for a few hours, before grabbing a burger from an IHOP restaurant.
Next we had to figure out how to get to the nearest Metro station, so out came the maps and our hideous navigation skills guided us along a HUGE road next to the Marina.
Everything is huge in Dubai, more so than America! It's almost like entering a metropolis city that you see in films like Minority Report, it's ironic for a city like this to just be in the middle of a desert!
We found our way back to the hotel after a few stops on the metro (a couple back because we went too far) and a short taxi ride.
Tomorrow we plan to visit Palm Beach, Burj Khalifa and The Dubai Fountain, so get ready for lots of pictures!
