Alyson, Emily, Julie & Katie's Adventures
Having left Dunedin, we ventured down the coast to Invercargill which we found to be very industrial and not particularly interesting so we headed on for Te Anau and Milford Sound. From Te Anau we went on two trips, one to Doubtful Sound and one to Milford Sound. They were both really beautiful and we saw dolphins, penguins, and about a million seals.
After a few days in Te Anau, we headed for Queenstown - Adventure Capital! It's a wicked little town with loads going on. On our second day, we were all brave enough to do a CAnyon Swing which consisted of freefalling for 60metres and then swinging out across a massive canyon above a big river. It was excellent and we all felt very proud of ourselves for doing it. Em even did it twice and went upsidedown and backwards the second time! A couple of days later all except Em went on the Shotover Jet, a very fast boat that speeds down the Shotover Canyon at high speed. Continuing in the spirit of adventure, Ju and Katie decided to go hang gliding (Aly and Em went to the cinema - hardcore!). They had an amazing time, scary at first but then they got used to it and loved the feeling of flying through the air while straped to a kiwi man! They both made it home safe and sound and didn't fly too close to the sun - phew!
We're now in Wanaka, which is another stunningly beautiful town on a lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains. This morning Katie donned a fireproof suit, a neck brace, and a helmet and took the wheel of a monster truck! She was in her element bombing about over an obstacle course and some old cars (God help any sheep if they'd got in the way!). After that adventure we headed to Puzzling World (Alyson had been looking forward to this for weeks - GEEK). See Pics.
Tonight we're off to Wanaka's famous cinema where they serve you dinner in the interval and apparently make really good cookies - we'll soon see! Bye for now xxxx
