Well we arrived in London after the bus ride from hell. We left Edinburough at about 11am and our drivers were supposed to switch at one stop and the other driver just didnt show up. So, it took them 3 hours to send out a new one to take us on to London. Once we did get to London, this genious bus driver had no idea where the bus station was(??). So, we drove around for another hour trying to find it. We were going to go complain once we got in but by this time it was midnight and the station was closed therefore the bus driver just dropped us off on the street. This was not good. Not only could we not complain and try to get our money back but there was no one to help us find a map of the city or help us in any way. But wait it gets better. We did not have a place to stay this evening and every hostel in all of London was booked. How is that even possible??? We were not in a good place.
We decided we'd kind of wander around and try and find a 24hr Mcdonalds or cafe of some sort to wait out the morning. According to our taxi driver that we decided to hail, the only place open 24hr was this cafe £20 away. This place was pretty nice too and we show up travel worn AND with our giant backpacks...just awful. So we sit down and order food and basically stare at eachother wondering what the hell we're going to do. So we waste about an hour and by this time its about 2am (4 hours before we had planned to set out and find our hostel for the next day). This group of 5 well dressed guys in buisness suits decide to sit at the table next to us. They start to strike up conversation and eventually ask us to join them. (Who on earth knows why because we were looking rough and pretty put out) They were very funny and quite nice which started to change our minds about London, which at this point, was not very good. We discussed our situation and they couldn't believe that we were traveling around with just a backpack for a month. When we were ready to leave, they paid for our food and got us a taxi back to the bus station where we waited out the morning. Very nice guys, we were very grateful.
Around 8ish, we headed out to find our hostel on pretty much no sleep so things were starting to get weird. We rode the Underground for the first time with no problems at all. Our hostel is really cool. It's this big old victorian style house with quaint furniture. The nicest place we've stayed this far. We were not allowed to check in till 2pm but we were able to use the showers and freshen up which was most needed. We ran out for lunch and to explore a bit until 2pm came around. Mind you we havent slept yet. So at 2, we basically fall into our room. At this hostle, me and Lis booked a double bed to share. We could not have prepared ourselves for the way this room was going to look. Our room is mostly dark wood with huge windows and a fireplace. It looks awesome. The beds are double beds and go 3 high. We were in the middle bunk and the sides all had curtains. It was quite romantic haha We jumped in bed and slept until 7.
Refreshed we decided we were up for the London bar crawl which now in hindsite we probably just should have skipped haha Met some strange people and had a heck of a time trying to figure out how to get back to the hostel since the Underground closed and not all the busses were still running. London is quite a more complex city then we have encountered so far. Never the less, we made it home.
Lordy.
