Hi All from the Loire & Dordogne regions of France
It's been a week of major contrast with our last week spent in Paris ... Loire and Dordogne have offered us a real taste of rural France - lush, green, relaxed, village life and markets intermingled with magnificent chateau and stunning scenery.
Red poppies grow wild along the roadsides and across sown fields and provide a reminder of having visited here before.
Our highlight in the Dordogne has been a 25km Canadian Canoe trip down the Dordogne river - a strong current did alot of the work. A real mixture of nature and history, we passed through medieval historic villages built into cliffs faces and several chateau perched on prominent cliff tops along the rivers course. Literally hundreds of canoes sat parked up on the river banks in readiness for summer crowds and made us appreciate the virtual solitude that we had been given in advance of the peak season start.
Our camp sites to date have likewise been pleasantly quiet ... so quiet that our latest campsite has suggested that budgie smugglers are not necessary at the moment given that it's the quiet season and therefore the rules don't apply - fortunate for some!
Our daily lunches consist of freshly baked baguettes and pasteries!
Historic Sarlat provided a bustling Saturday morning market on the way to a new location at Limeuli - still in the Dordogne and on the rivers edge at the junction of the Vezere and Dordogne. Overnight the weather has changed to showers, however we've still managed a walk around the village. Lumeli is very attractive with steep cobbled winding narrow streets and rural outlook.
Just a short blog update as we head south - our internet access is proving abit sporadic and it seems that some of our text messages are not getting through (although we do seem to be receiving some ??) ...
Tomorrow we move on again ... it'll take a couple of days to reach our destination Barcelona & Spain.
Thanks again for all your return messages which are always appreciated by us all ...
Till our next blog ... it's again Au Revoir (over & out) from this Family on OE!
