Hello everyone! Friends, family, classmates, and other... things that you are!
I write to you now from the beautiful Cusco, Peru. While it is beautiful, it is also polluted (as in air pollution clogging my lungs every time I walk to class and back 4x a day), crazy-touristy (as in WAY OVERLY touristy alllll the time), party-y, and much more.
I've moved in with my host family as of a few days ago and have already been sick - so hopefully I'm over being sick for the whole trip! yay! Some sort of stomach/intestinal bug I could have gotten anywhere from Rosario to Lima to Urubamba to Cusco.... but in any case, the antibiotics are helping me win the battle being fought in my stomach!
I am getting to know my twenty-four classmates slowly but surely... and am enjoying that! I am taking Quechua classes in the morning and we have daily seminars in the afternoons that cover a variety of topics. Some have been very interesting, some not quite so much... Quechua I am finding difficult but mostly because of the teaching style of my teacher I think?
I have been to Machu Picchu already, it's so BEAUTIFUL! It is very touristy but it's also incredibly beautiful! I think there are probably fewer people who were there because it's the rainy season right now and so it was pretty cloudy some of the day and the day before we went, I guess it rained all day long!! People buy their tickets months in advance to get there via bus and train, so that would really have been a drag!
I will try to post pictures from facebook sometime soon, but I'm not great at being timely about those things, so I hope you all will bear with me...
So far things are good, and I guess I just wanted folks to know that things are good here so far... Nothing too intense yet really besides being really sick - I was in bed for about 48 hours straight minus going to the doctor! Bleugh! And as a result, I missed the first weekend in Cusco with all the other students, which kind of sucks but I'm excited to get to spend time with folks on the weekend this weekend even though we won't be in Cusco very much...
Something I'm very sad about is missing the Newell's Old Boys game this Friday! :( It's the first game of the season really and it's against Estudiantes but I will live!
Anyhow, I hope you are all doing well and I miss and love you all!
