Singapore or Lion City how it translates really is where East meets West.
If ever there was a country that embraces it many cultures and celebrates them equally, its Singapore.
It has 4 official languages - English, Hindi, Malay and Cantonese, oh and a 5th of Singlish which is a mixture of all.
We should have known it would be special when we arrived at Sentral Station KL and seen how many other passengers were also booked on the overnight Hogwarts Express to Singapore. Most of the passengers were Indian and when we got to our bunks for the evenings, our neighbours in the carraige where all Indian. This was like the Indian Hogwarts but 10 times better. It was brighter, cleaner and bigger and I couldnt wait to shut my curtains and nod off to the rocking of the train. i was glad to leave KL or rather the backpackers lodge and after being in my bunk for all of 5 minutes I drifted off to sleep like a baby.
When we arrived at the border and customs, our nice Indian neighbour in the bunk above me told me and James that we had to get off with all our bags and get stamped etc so we were glad of our friendly Indian man. We then got back on and finished our journey into an overcast Singapore.
Checking inot a hotel with a bed, air con and shower was a real luxury and we showered straight away then climbed into bed and fell asleep even though it was just gone 9am. The train journey had been comfortable enough but we were awaken around 4am as the train ride got a bit bumpy. When we finally awoke and got out of the hotel to explore we were starving. Staying at the Summer View Hotel in Bencoolen Street we were near to many amenities including many shopping malls so we dived into a Japanese place as our craving for Udon noodles had been growing by the months. We were now in full swing to go walking so the infamous Raffles Hotel was our first stop.
