I didnt quite know what to make of Wellington when we first arrived. It was a saturday morning and the sun was shining in the harbour which is just out of the city centre. There were a few people about but in the main shopping area it was less busy and some of the shops were closed which i found odd for a weekend. What I did notice about Wellington though was teenage buskers, quite a few too, from young lads sitting on the floor playing eukelele's to the blonde student singing "unplugged" to passers by.
We looked around the botanic gardens and shops before heading back towards the harbour where trendy little bars sat amongst skateboarders. It was here that we came across the coolest place on earth. One of the bars/restaurants called St Johns had a wine promotion on so across the lawn from it and under the sunshine was a mobile bar with an area for buskers to come and play to the crowds of people who had found this little gem. Chairs were beanbags on the grass and tables were beer barrels and we stayed there and watched 3 buskers play. It was a lazy afternoon drinking Stoneleigh and tipping the best of the buskers.
The next day and finished with the North Island we head off to the Interislander ferry which is a 3 hour ferry ride to the South Islands. The scenery here is amazing, it was like sailing through the fjords. With the dramatic backdrop of these "fjords" another ferry passed us going in the opposite direction and swimming alongside it where dolphins. These amazing creatures looked like they were racing the vessel jumping through the air every few seconds.
I have loved the North Island so am looking forward to the South Island as they say it is more beautiful.
