Hi all
Just quick update from us, ally has been typing up our adventures and we will post them all as son as we get to a wifi zone (airport probably). In the meantime we have been enjoying some fanastic food - we have ate a couple of times at an all veg restaurant; aloo tikka masala, veg dopiaza, jeera rice, onion riata and garlic nan - 380 rupees - thats about 5 quid! fresh fish every day on the beach, and the crappest breakfast in christendom - toast like inner soles with s***ty butter and jam! tea wit every meal, Indian of course (tetley actually). the spices here are subtle rather than hot, so far no Bombay bum (fingers crossed)...beer is bang on at 60 - 80 rupees for a 650ml bottle thats about a pound - from what we have learned however there are cheaper places than here!
Beggar update, we sit at the 'Red Lion' each night in Calangute almost in the road and have to watch our toes dont get run over by mopeds and taxis - or trod on by Holy Cows! there is a pregnant beggar that sits near us each night acompanied by 2 little boys 2/3 years old and a daughter about 5. After hearing from locals the beggars are in fact part of an organised begging scam - the young children never cry because they are usually doped on something, they just lie in the dirt next to their mum (if she is) the little girl begs from passers by and all the money she gives to her 'mum' at the end of the night they b***** off to the hut/shack where they live with other beggars that each have their own patch in town - the money they make goes to their 'Pimp' who provides food and shelter...
Make your own minds up about this but I prefer to give my money to hard working people hawking beads, clothes, etc on the beach or in the street...
anyhow off to have something to eat now,
James
