Five weeks on Australia’s east coast soon came to an end. Three films, two meals and a choc ice later, we arrived into Singapore.
Having both previously visited this city state, only a brief two night stay was called for. The smells and sounds of Asia always take you back to previous visits and bring with them a sense of familiarity.
Singapore, in shopping terms, is a home from home. Even Australia can’t compete when it comes to Marks & Spencer ‘Percy Pigs’. Above the aroma of two stroke exhaust and cooking street food, Sue pinpointed the sugary delights from 300 meters away, which set the tone for a successful shopping day.
With relatively cool weather, no more than 30 degrees and not as clammy as you would expect, we whisked along Orchard Road, which sports familiar brands such as Top Shop, Gap and Esprit. Phill took his turn in the driving seat, so to speak, as we arrived into Little India. This is where you head for electronics. A friendly Indian chap removed the back from our new laptop and, as Phill phrased it, ‘its pimped’. And as Sue phrased it, ‘bang goes our warranty’! An extra gigabyte of RAM means your updates will be more regular and quicker to deploy!
But, hey, time refuses to stand still and we are typing this from our hotel in Bangkok. Our tailor, whom Phill has shown loyalty to for five years now, has instructions for our 2007 business attire collection. We were oh so tempted to have matching suits. We settled for merely very similar! The cloth is 85% Cashmere, sourced we are told, from Italy. Korea more like, though out of politeness we are happy to indulge our clothes makers.
In terms of backpacking, well, we have retired. The budget is toast.
Congratulations to Natalie and Steven, loyal allsevenettes, who recently announced their engagement!
