Alarm goes off 3hours later... Eugh! Woke up in my clothes from the night before and just remember not sleeping much because I was so cold. Unzip the tent and everything is covered in frost, no wonder we were all cold, apparently it got down to -5, Brr!
Feeling slightly sick but just got on with it and everyone packs away their frozen tents and apart from Isobel who came well prepared with fleece liners, no one slept much so everyone's pretty tired!
We drove for a few hours while most people slept apart from a little bit of wildlife spotting seeing caribou and a pika. Then we made it to Carlo Camp which is a really nice campsite where we can camp under coverings, have proper showers and toilets and there's free wifi.
We set up our tents super quick and then headed off to the national park as we were booked in to see a demonstration. Had a quick stop at the Denali national park sign where we all did stupid poses and then went into the visitors centre for a quick look round before getting on a park bus out to the demonstration.
The demonstration we were going to see was a dog sled demonstration all about how they first started using the dogs and how they still use them now. Firstly, we looked round the kennels at all the dogs and they really were beautiful but after a few minutes, not being a fan of dogs, I got pretty bored so was pleased when they called us all over to another section to see the demonstration.
The guy doing the demonstration had this big beard and looked pretty manly until he spoke and was the campest guy ever, so he made the demonstration much more interesting.
He told us about how the park came to be a national park because they were protecting the doll sheep that are only found in Alaska and in the winter they had to use dogs to get through the park and protect the sheep. They still use the dog sleds in the winter through the park as it is still more efficient than using skis or a snow plough.
Then they went and got 5 of the dogs to a quick run round the kennels to show us how it works: the dogs were so excited and were going crazy to be allowed to run, they did a quick run round which lasted about 1minute and then that was it. It was quite interesting but think we were all hoping for a bit more information about how they train the dogs.
We all got back on the bus and met Brendan at the visitors centre, then we went to the shop as we'd ran out of alcohol and one girl wanted some more clothes. The shop we ended up at was this little country type shop and the clothes in there were so bad that me and Jamie decided it would be an awesome idea to buy matching Alaska jumpers that were hideously good, then we stocked up on alcohol.
Back at the camp we all showered and we got into our awesome jumpers which made everyone giggle for a while, then we all of course became stuck to Facebook: god damn you Zuckerberg!!
We ate fajitas which were yummy then made our dinner for the next day as it was ANOTHER early morning so went to bed pretty early.
