Have got settled in Swaziland. We are staying in a hostel in the Ezulwini valley. It is beautiful but quite lush and fertile, not quite what I had visualised. We have had a little training, including using the local buses or Kombis. The staff are very friendly and commited to the projects. We are working for vulnerable children, many have lost one or both parents through AIDS.
Have just returned from Kruger which was amazing, saw so much and have too many photos. I willl bore you to tears when I get back home. We camped and were rather unlucky with the weather, torrential rain on two days, but were really lucky with our guides who were great fun and had x-ray vision. sighhting animals in all directions.
Started work today, on building duty, there is a house where a gran is looking after 5 kids, apart from the regular household. The organisation is building an extension so there is a little more space. Purdy and I have been mixing loads of concrete used for rendering the outer wall. Hard work especially with 5 kids leaping on you.
May also have contact with children at homework club and sports club. Two volunteers have work at a drop-in sports centre so some of us can help in the afternoons if numbers increase.
