Alison's African Adventure
Wow!! This place is fantastic!!! Just like the picture here!!! We travelled down from Arusha south to Moshi and stayed one night there before travelling again to Dar es Salem on the coast of the Indian Ocean. the climate was so differnt, still rainy season so haven't got much of a tan yet and it is only going to get colder the further south we go!! Dar is such a huge city, we only stayed there for the one night at the best campsite so far, it was right on the beach and even had a swimming pool!!! we chilled in the pool drinking our beers before having the most delicious barbequed fish ever, red snapper caught that day!! the showers were open air cubicles with trees growing in them!!! Given up on the bug hunt now, if they are gonna bite me they are gonna bite me!! we then got up the next day to get the 3 hour ferry over to Zanzibar - bit choppy but luckily i don't get sea sick!!! we then took a bus journey up to our resort in Kendwa Rocks on the north side of the island. spent three nights here (tonight being my third) just chilling out, so glad we dont have to out tents up and it was so nice to have a hot shower and a proper bed!!!! the beach is 100m away from our bungalow and it has the whitest sand i have ever seen, with an aqua sea and palm trees on the beach!! Just beautiful!! there is a bar and restaurant right on the beach where we have spent most of our time, beer is just so cheap!!
Today we went snorkelling in the Mneba Atoll Marine reserve which was really cool although i nearly got hypothermia as it was so cold!! has rained all day which was a bit of a shame but we did see some fantastic fish!! Half drowning in the choppy waves but it was well worth it!!!
Tomorrow we are heading back down to Stone Town where i am going on the Spice Tour in the morning and then on a trip to Prison Island in the afternoon where you can see giant tortoises (watch out fred you may have a new roomie!!!)
Not looking forward to going back to Dar as its two nights in a row of bushcamping when we get back!! Kinda getting used to that feeling of semi cleanliness!!!
Oooo!! Just remebered had the scariest thing ever happen to me today!! This is gonna make you all freak!! Was waiting in the queue for the toilet as you do and one of the girls flicked a preying mantis out of the cubicle, it flew around for a bit and attached itself to my shoulder!!! they look so horrible and it is amazing how big they are!!! ewww!!!
Anyway gotta go now cos i am starving!! Take care everyone and cheers for the emails!! Tis really cool to keep in touch with you all!!
