PART 1//
Fun facts for a tourist considering living abroad in Madrid:
Hello! It has been a while! I have been very conflicted and stuck on what to write about for my next blog. I've decided to write this one on all things 'Madrid'. (This blog turned out to be very long so there are 3 blog parts)
1. If you ask for the wifi password expect a confused look
Here, people pronounce wifi as 'weefee', it is hilarious, just you wait.
2. "Let's get up early and get Breakfast somewhere!"
...So that isn't really done here. I hate to burst your bubble early risers. Depending on what you call breakfast and at what time you are considering getting up, this is not a normal thing to say to someone, scrap the idea, go back to bed! During the end of winter, the sun comes up very late (8-9am) and most places don't open until 9.30am-10am. The other interesting thing is that lunch is around 2pm-3pm, and dinner is around 9pm-10pm, depending on your eating habits. My Spanish roommates tend to eat as late as 11pm-12am sometimes, yet they still get up early for work around 8am. Nuts!
3. "Let's get there early!"
Forget it! Did you not read number 2?! See how I wrote from 2pm to 3pm… A very unspecific time with a whole hour time difference... but no dramas! That is what plans are like here. My professors are often late. I only have one professor that is always on time, and she says to everyone who is walking through the door late 'punctuality please', and you guessed it - she is part German. Being early just doesn't happen here, or on time for that matter. Embrace it! I love it particularly because I have never been very good at being on time
