Well, we have just completed our second safari, one day in the Ngorogoro crater, and one day in the Serengetti. We were up early again on the first day (as sunrise is the best time to see the big cats) The crater is enormous, and all in every direction the crater walls rise up around you. It was formed by a volcanic explosion, but it took a long time for anyone to work out how to get into it (eventually they began following the tracks the elephants made walking down, and still do now). One of the most impressive sights in the crater were the literally hundreds of pink flamingos in the lake- so many the lake looked almost pink. That afternoon we drove up into the serengetti, where we camped (completely in the open, in a campsite where lions have been seen wandering around the toilets in the night, although we didn't see any) That night rained quite a bit, which probably had a negative effect on the next days' game viewing as we saw very little compared to the masai mara, and still no leopards! But we saw a few more lions, with cubs, huge herds of wildebeasts which we didn't see in the masai mara, as they have just migrated southwards, as well as more zebra, elephant, ostriches, giraffe, warthogs and hyena. Altogether an incredible experience (although we were all glad we'd been to the masai, where we got a lot closer to the animals- the serengetti is 14000km across, so there are lots more places to hide). After this we're off to Dar Es Salam, where we head to Zanzibar.
