Day 11 - The music from the wedding party in the next village finally stopped at approx 05:30 so unfortunately wasn't a great last night at the ecolodge. We were awakened by the noise of 'something' moving through water. On further investigation, the herd of water buffalo were literally just yards away, the other side of the fence thankfully! Day 10 - Not a great deal to say today as we had a lazy day relaxing at the lodge in the hammock watching the buffalo graze in the wetlands. Woke up early (probably because we were in bed by 8pm!) to watch the water-buffalo heading out for the day. Day 9 - 05:30 came around after about 20 minutes sleep for both of us and multiple mosquito bites for one of us. The blooming net had more holes in it than net but unfortunately one of us is more tasty than the other! We met another local guide who took us into the jungle again to look and listen to the calls of the creatures. Day 8 - Wake up to the sound of rain would you believe. Early for breakfast as we have the 2 day trek with overnight stay in a the remote village of Ta Ong. With much trepidation we got on the songthaw with our guide from the lodge and Simon, another guest at the lodge. Another bumpy road for 1.5 hours (usually only 45 mins when the roads are in a better state) where along the way we discovered Simon was French and that songthaw's are particularly good in water...

Day 7 - An early wake up due to the local wildlife's morning mating calls!! Excellent breakfast at the lodge and then it was the ride back down the 'road of doom' to get to the main road to head off to the famous Wat Phou ruins. Luckily this time we were in a minivan which we had hired for the day. We arrived at the 'ferry port' to cross the Mekong, but please do not think this resembled Dover!
