After the delight of the Nicaraguan border crossing (our time in costa rica came to an end at the side of the road, where we had to wait for a bus to take us across the border) we arrived in San Juan del Sur ready to kick back and relax.
Our first night was spent in the town itself. Mixing surf vibes with bars and boutiques, it is known for being more of a party place rather than picturesque beach destination. After a day of travel, tired sweaty and shattered we didn't really fancy going out.
The following day we made our way to the better beaches staying at casa maderas, a short shuttle away from playa maderas. With a pool and the obligatory hammock outside it made for the perfect place to switch off (not that that's been a problem while travelling).
Playa maderas is better known for surfing rather than a quick dip in the ocean. But after a day by the pool it made for a great sunset destination. Watching the surfers catching the waves (to varying degrees of success) was the perfect backdrop and end to a relaxing day.
The next day was more of the same, with a few calls home as well. Now off to Ometepe, the island of volcanos
