Malaysia
We arrived on Langkawi, Malaysia by boat from Ko Lipe. This seemed like a logical although expensive way to enter, and apart from the arctic air con on the boat, we arrived happily in port at the islands main town. From here we headed to Pantai Cenang on the west coast. According to our rare research, this boasted the best beach and budget accommodation. We found a nice place right away called lazy gecko, dumped our bags and headed for some food. We had read that malaysia has some excellent food on offer and we wanted to prove this rapidly. Sadly we only had time for a day on the island but quickly found Malaysian food to our liking. Our next stop was Penang where we stayed in little India and made the most of Indian influence. We also had our first (of many) hawker meals. These are fantastic if you have a glutonus streak like us; massive food courts with every possible fare on offer all cheap as chips and delicious! After a few days of this we fancied a break from barely fitting swimwear, so headed to the colder climbs of The Cameron Highlands in the mountainous region north east of Kuala Lumpur. This made for a lovely break from the dizzying heat of the last few months and allowed us to explore without heat exhaustion. We even found it cool enough to play a swift 9 holes at the local golf course. This was absolutely stunning with mountains and tea plantations as hazards and only the sound of the sheiks son's helicopter spoiling the atmosphere.
From the highlands we headed to KL with the intention of just passing through. Once in China Town we found so much to see and do in the city, we spent our remaining five days there, mainly taking advantage of the immense shopping and the delightful food.
Physically and financially spent, we squeezed into our bathers (my man-kini a few sizes on the small by now and showing signs of fatigue) and boarded the plane to Bali..
