The Banfields have landed! (In Africa, that is).
Didn't take me long to remember why I was so itching to get back here. It's a truly beautiful place.
Last night we stayed at the YWCA in Dar Es Salaam. After a wander round the city, Rach and I proceeded to fall asleep at the restaurant table we were dining at before the food had even arrived. Needless to say, I slept like a baby (when they're not waking up and crying all night!) last night.
Africa is one of those places where a 10-hour bus ride - which elsewhere might be torture - is a joy. So I thoroughly enjoyed today's epic journey. It was fascinating to watch the landscape change from the lush, coastal, green areas to desert with the occasional cacti and a lot of red dirt. It was fascinating also to see the change in houses, from city buildings, to mud huts with thatched rooves, to red mud-brick houses with corrugated iron, with all kinds of variations in between.
So much to tell but, as always, net access is limited so this blog will be too!
HAKUNA MATATA.
