The Orphanage Experience: Part 2
** Go to the "Blog Posts" page and click on the Mexico bit then "La Mission Valley 1" for the update on the first part of the trip. **
We packed up Saturday arv and drove out to the beach where we were gonna sleep the night. So, when someone tells you to bring a tarp instead of a tent so you can sleep on the beach under the stars you expect a nice sandy beach, right?
Well, this beach was comprised of rocks averaging the size of my fist. Yeah, they were smooth, but there was no way anyone could get a good night's sleep on those. It turned out the sandy area above the rocky area, which suspicously looked like a parking lot, was our designated camping area for the night. So even though we were disappointed not to be able to truly sleep on the beach, it was close enough.
And sleeping under the stars that close to the ocean is something I would love to do again. There's nothing quite like waking up to blue skies above you, then sitting up and watching the waves crash on that rocky thing they call beach!
Hopefully I can track down some more pics and add to the photo album, cos Kat (whose pics are in there at the mo) left before we went to the beach. Props to you for some good photos tho Kat!
Oh, how could I forget... the adventure on the way home!
Our driver had what one of the girls euphemistically called an "adventurous" style of driving. This resulted in us getting pulled over by the Mexican cops not once, but twice, and very nearly a third time, on our way home. He got off pretty lightly, partly thanks to his Spanish sweet-talking, but partly through dishonest means, which I didn't think were very cool. Should we really be encouraging the corruption, which is apparently pretty rife there already?
Anyhow mum, we made it back in one piece, and don't worry, I don't have any more Mexico trips planned. I'd love to go back and visit the kids sometime though, and drive down that stunning coastal road again.
