Today Mum and I walked into the village to visit the butcher's / internet cafe / bus booking office etc. It's like stepping back in time, with a booking office using carbon copy paper rather than computers, and everything's just so basic... I love it.
While mum went to the tailors to get some wet weather gear repaired - by a man who sat outside and used one of his old-school Singer sewing machines to do it - I got to make friends with more gorgeous little kiddies, Kenyans and Arabians by the looks of things. I was privileged to be invited into the home of Sophie, one of the girls, to meet her family and their adorable new-born baby. The tailor taught me how to ask "how are you?" and "what's your name?" so now I have something to respond with to distract them when they say "give me sweets!" which is, sadly, what many of them appear to have been taught to say.
