Remind me again why I chose to come back to the city a day earlier than I really needed to. What a nice welcome back I received: not even out of the bus station, someone squirted brown gunk onto the back of my pants. Strategically placed, to make me look like I'd had some sort of nasty "accident." And this guy I put my bags down next to starts pointing it out to me, and I genuinely thought he was being kind. The opposite, more likely. He was probably the one who had squirted it on there - I didn't see for sure who did it - to distract me and then rob my money. But he failed. Though he did manage to mess up my nice Thai pants, and slightly humiliate me.
Thankfully though, things weren't all bad. I was actually on the phone to a friend when I got splashed with it, and this guy works like two minutes from the bus station. So kindly let me drop my bags there and change clothes before setting off to explore San Jose, wondering why I didn't stay in my little beachside shack that extra night.
But things aren't really so bad; I'm back in the home I stayed at earlier this week, and they cooked me possibly the last ever Latin American food I'll eat in a while. Oh New Zealand, brilliant country that you are, why don't you have more Mexican kai?
Anywho, I am looking forward to a Keri pie, maybe some roadside hangi or fish 'n' chips, NZ cheddar and a nice cold glass of milk fresh from NZ cows. Mmmm. And, of course, it's not just the food I am looking forward to returning to... Not even just that I won't have to re-pack (read: jam) everything back into my pack for the millionth time... I am excited to see you unique bunch of people they call Kiwis, and who seem to be few and far between in places like Costa Rica. (A couple days ago I had to tell a guy I wasn't Chinese, after trying to explain my country is between Africa and South America. D'oh!)
