Hio Everyone!,
Firstly i'll apologise for any spelling mistakes or poor / lack of punctuation.. i am on my Swedish room mate's laptop-
We arrived in New York two days ago now, and absolutely love it so far.
We have an awesome hostel, the Chelsea Star (thanks Kristen} and are with 4 swedish guys, a german girl and a japanese guy. They are all lovely, especially the swedish guys, who absolutely love australia and happily lend us their laptops.
When we arrived, we checked into our hostel, had a chat to our swedish friends and headed off for a massive walk around manhattan. Times square was massive and very busy and lively, even for a weeknight. We had a look around the Footlocker and sussed out any future empployment prospects for mitch, amidst looking at shoes for ourselves.
Today we went for another walk around manhattan, taking photos of all the beautiful buildings, and the ice rinks. We got to the rockerfeller centre and were about to buy our tickets to climb up to the observation deck when we realised my wallet was back at the hostel. By the time we had retrieved it, the sun was too glary for us to have a good view, so we've put that off for tomorrow and headed off to staten island instead.
We took the ferry out there, passing the statue of liberty on the way, and took some amazing photos of that. We walked around the island for about 2 hours, mainly through the residential area, which was so good because we saw all the different types of houses and cars etc. Stuff like that is just as interesting as all the main toursit attractions.
We headed back to Manhattan at night, and chris went out for a wlak on his own becasuse he was the only one out of us who decided t brave the weather. It's freezing out here at the momentm expecially at night. The days are around 5 degrees and tonight was definitely below zero. On his walk, chris saw the new yor nicks basketball team, a fist fight and almost got run over numerous times by both cops and taxis. Weäve seen quite a few fights out here... not all physical, but still entertaining . scary nonetheless. The drivers here are absolutely mental and do not adhere to street signs or traffic lights at all, nor do they take any notice of pedestrians. Pretty scary but weäre getting the hang of it now, expecially after finally having adjusted to the cars being on the poopsite side of the road and having to look to the opposite sie that weäre used to before crossing a road.
Tonight we also backed up our photos onto cds.. in the 6 days weve been here weve already taken over 900 photos and waied in a chemist over an hour for them to be burnt to cds. We'll upload them once we find a reasonably priced internet cafe.
I came across the news corp building today for all employed by news, and took a photo of that also. I momentarily thought of you working away at holt street, before jetting off to the next attraction.
Miss you all, but we'll continue to keep you all posted.''
Love Ali and Chris xx
